Spec-chums

Seeing Mark Pilgrim’s early-age geeking made me think of my own introduction to programming. It was an epic entitled A Child’s Guide to the ZX Spectrum(childsguide.jpg (JPEG Image, 400×601 pixels)).

I found that book image in the alarmingly thorough World of Spectrum archive, which is constantly updated and now includes complete scans of issues of Your Sinclair, including one from September 1986

An issue which featured the following advert on Page 90(YourSinclair0900090.jpg (JPEG Image, 977×1369 pixels))

Penpal Ad

Two things:

  1. I promise that I have never “swopped a POKE” with anyone. Ever. Especially not with filthy foreigners.
  2. Swop is an accepted spelling. So nyah!

Aw, you were the youngest prospective pen pal on the page. Bless!

Ahh, the World Of Spectrum sprites - makes me feel most nostalgic. Quite scary remembering every one of the little sods.
