Better Employment Through Blogging

There’s an article in today’s Globe’s jobs section warning of the incompatibility between blogging and being employed. It covers two main points:

1. Some big corporations are using bloggers to build community, and spread information.
2. If you post something that your employer doesn’t want public, ‘For Hire’ ad here a few weeks ago, I received a handful of enquiries from readers of this site, which were all for really interesting positions.

   I was hearing about jobs which were far more exciting than any of the dreck that shows up when you search Monster.com, and I was hearing about them because I’ve used this space to rant, tell bad jokes, and show my “true colours” in a manner which a cover letter + résumé never could.

   Now I’m going to go and play with the large collection of office supplies I’ve stolen over the last five years.
