The name’s Foothill… Gargoyle C. Foothill

It’s a common spammer trick to make mail look like it’s come from one of your friends, by cunningly populating the From line with common first names. I have to wonder, though, what this spammer had been smoking when they coded this random name generator…

UPDATE: Another one today from “Tallyhoed L. Spoonbills”. OK, that’s my new pseudonym on message boards from now on!

Similar spammer names I've spotted in my own inbox recently:
"Nouakchott M. Calories"
"Hedge C. Paramedicals"
"Plaudits R. Jarring"
"Licks C. Shenandoah"
"Individuality P. Dolefuller"
"Overplays S. Maryellen"
"Ungainlier Q. Math"
"Preachy P. Concatenate"
I think the funniest ones, incidentally, are messages like those in your screenshot where they fake the subject line so that it appears to be a greeting card from someone with a hilariously made-up name. How stupid do they think people are?

You might enjoy Spam As Folk Art, which chronicles and comments on spam subject lines and names. The gold standard is Muppet C. Persuasively, with McCarthyism E. Objectiveness close behind.
