Finally powered by Django
Simon Willison’s shifted his blog onto a Django-based platform. I think I might have a crack at this myself — The limitations of MovableType (not least the fact that I don’t know Perl terribly well) keep biting me these days. Could be fun to roll-my-own (and a good project for my week off work).

Schneier on Security: Real-World Passwords
Bruce Schneier breaks down the password data gathered by a MySpace phishing attack. Notable fact: When the site insists upon including letters and numbers in the password, folks just append “1” to their usual password. (And, in my experience, when forced to change their password every few months, just cycle the number)

iTunes sales are NOT plummeting! Press credibility, on the other hand . . .
Tsk. I should have known better than to link to an Orlowski post on The Reg.
Google Patents
It’s a bit wonky on its first night out, but this new Patent search from Google is pretty powerful, indexing the full text of all the patents. Only appears to hold granted patents though, not applications.

Threadless: ‘An item in your cart is running out!’ email
What a brilliant piece of customer service from Threadless.
As their 30-day $10-a-shirt sale has been going on, I've been occasionally chucking shirts I fancy into my cart, with an intent to go back on the last day of the sale and buy in bulk to save on shipping costs.
This evening, I got an email that one of the shirts in my cart was close to selling out. That gave me enough time to go back to their site and checkout.
A win-win all round, then. I got my shirt, and they got a sale. Nice work Threadless chaps!
