last.fm Player on TiVo HME

last.fm Player on TiVo HME

Someone's knocked out a last.fm player for the TiVo HME platform. Works pretty well too. If you've got a Series 2 TiVo hooked up to your home network, follow the instructions at apps.tv to give it a try.

London Underground Anagram Map

Genius! Getting from “Queer Spank” to “Erect Bone” requires a four zone ticket.

Zillow.com - Your Edge in Real Estate

As prophesized in Freakonomics, an extremely usable web database of house market values. Realtors have just become 50% less necessary. Hooray.

VMWare Server

Fantastic news: VMWare are making their server product free(beer). I’m almost certainly going to use this for a dev server at work — Backup the virtual machine image every night, and if hardware crashes, just startup your backed-up image on a new machine. Also gets around the “You can’t create an image” limitation of the free VMWare Player app.

Sketch Swap

Silly fun little webapp — Draw a picture, submit it, get a new one in return.

Threadless.com secret sale

T-shirts for $10 if you use their “secret” codes.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Joy & I saw this on Broadway last weekend, and absolutely loved it. Both funny and moving, and the theatre is brilliantly decked out like a school gymnasium, inside and out! Highly recommended.

Rentaghost The Musical - UK Theatre Production

Classic British kids TV show turned into a touring musical by Joe Pasquale! (via my sister, whose email had the subject line “Yes, really”)

Refund Please

Keep track of items you purchase from Amazon — If they drop the price within 30 days, you can get a quibble-free refund. I got back $9 from them today for four CDs I purchased last month! I might try and make a bookmarklet or GreaseMonkey script to handle this automagically.

Malcolm Gladwell: What pit bulls can teach us about profiling.

Excellent, fascinating Malcolm Gladwell article about the uselessness of “profiling” as a tool to attack crime.

coComment - clear conversation in the blogosphere

Interesting solution to the problem of knowing if anyone’s replied to a comment you’ve left on someone else’s blog.

zx spectrum walkthrough - Google Video

Complete video walkthroughs of classic Speccy games (although JSW has clearly been poked to avoid the Attic bug).

Is nothing sacred?

Is nothing sacred?

The (rather poorly-received) movie version of trippy 70's on-before-the-BBC-evening-news French animation, The Magic Roundabout, has been re-dubbed for America.

Some of the (mostly piss-poor ex- or current-SNL) vocal talents are horrendous. Whoopi Goldberg as Emintrude? Jimmy motherfuckin' Fallon as Dylan?!?

(Jim Broadbent vs William H Macy as Brian, on the other hand, is too close to call)

But worst of all is the bastardisation of Dougal's name for the movie's title. Clearly America is a little *too* hooked-on-phonics.

Disappearing Civil Liberties Mug

“Simply pour in your coffee or any hot beverage and watch the painstaking work of the founding fathers vanish before your eyes.” Genius!
