Burning visible images onto CD-Rs with data

An attempt at tweaking what you write to a CD so you leave artwork on the disc — Kind of like those Aphex Twin tracks where his face shows up in the spectrum analyzer. Very clever.

Bill Hicks: Salvation

I happened upon this last week, and it’s bloody fantastic. A complete unedited 100-minute Bill Hicks act from 1992. Due to his early death, Hicks gets a lot of messianic hyperbole, but listening to this act, it’s a reminder that a) he was a very smart guy getting angry at the same stuff that’s still going on today in America, and b) he is an incredibly talented stand-up, whose skill at reading the audience and winning them back round with dick jokes after losing them to rants on US politics is nothing short of masterful.

ShrinkwrappedGarbage

ShrinkwrappedGarbage

As I go through my CD collection, merrily re-ripping, I occasionally come across a CD such as this, purchased in 2001, but still in its shrinkwrap.

As I recall, I had downloaded MP3s of the album prior to release, but still went out and bought the CD in order to assuage my conscience (and because it was only $12 from the good folks at Newbury Comics).
