I usually don’t much care for FriendFeed, but I have to say that I’m impressed with their implementation of an XMPP bot — especially since the folks at Twitter suggested this week that such a large scale bot is impossible.

AOL adopting XMPP aka Jabber
You can now log into your AIM or ICQ account using Jabber. They’re not yet doing server-to-server, but it’s surely just a matter of time.

Good summary of why Jabber is awesome and the future of IM. I have to admit, I didn’t “get it” until I installed my own XMPP server and was able to hack up a bot in Python with about 20 lines of code.

The South African XMPP Federation OpenID Server
OpenID server which uses Jabber for authentication. Give your Jabber ID and a temporary token, and it will IM you and ask for your permission to login. Very clever.

Yowsers! A Firefox extension that enables simple asynchronous webapps, using Jabber’s XMPP prototcol. If this gets legs, it could be the birth of some wicked cool stuff.

Agile Messenger
AIM/Jabber/MSN client for cellphones. Seems nicely designed, but not sure it’s worth €25 a year for the service.
