Betahouse — a haven for Web entrepreneurs - The Boston Globe

The Central Square co-working loft gets a write-up in the Globe.

Jam Sessions

Upcoming release for the Nintendo DS, allowing you to play your DS like a guitar. It’ll be interesting to see how much it appeals to a music-geek like me who’s never played a guitar in his life.

Be Kind Rewind trailer

Michel Gondry’s next film. Jack Black and Mos Def remaking Ghostbusters and Robocop? Looks good!

One Laptop Per Child, Reviewed by 12-Year-Old

Well-written (for a 12-year-old) review of the OLPC XO laptop. The main concern about how slow it is seems moot to me for the target audience for whom this is their first computer: I accepted three-minute loading times on my ZX Spectrum at that age. (And is this a vindication of the original Speccy’s rubber keyboard?)

Barry Bonds’ HR Record Tainted by Elbow ‘Armor’?

Yet another asterisk to go next to Bonds’s name in the record books?

It’s very conflicting to be a Sox fan, now rooting for A-Rod to hit more home runs and overtake Bonds’s record.

YouTube - New Line Home Entertainment (2001)

All day, I’ve had this bit of music stuck in my head. All I could remember was that it was a movie company’s logo, and things flew around on the screen. I’ve been reduced to scouring YouTube to work out what it was — The ident for “New Line Home Entertainment”! Thank you, the Internet.

Silverlight spotted in the wild

Silverlight spotted in the wild

This is the first time I've seen Microsoft's Flash-killer Silverlight plugin used on a genuine, non-Microsoft-demo website. MLB are using it to play video.

(Incidentally, how much do I regret deciding to favour getting sleep over finishing watching the game last night? Stupid west-coast games)

Xslimmer - Your Mac, on a Diet!

Free up diskspace by removing unneeded bits of applications (eg. translations for languages you don’t speak). Chris Messina reports that you can get an extra 500Mb of diskspace by slimming iWork and iLife ‘08.

Redfin

Real estate site that acknowledges that good online search tools means realtors can less-and-less justify their 3% commission.

Welcome to America | Guardian Unlimited

“When writer Elena Lappin flew to LA, she dreamed of a sunkissed, laid-back city. But that was before airport officials decided to detain her as a threat to security”

Apple - iWork - Tutorials

Quality screencasts of the new features in iWork 08. Only had a minor play myself, but the ability to have two independent “tables” visible on one spreadsheet is bloody great.

Apple - Trailers - Sleuth

This looks a bit ace. Michael Caine and Jude Law, directed by Kenneth Branagh, screenplay by Harold Pinter.

CD Purchase: Tegan and Sara - The Con

Apple - iWork - Keynote - Flexible Delivery Options

New version of Keynote lets you record a voiceover for your presentation, then export to YouTube. That’s worth the upgrade price right there!

Young@Heart Chorus

Young@Heart Chorus

The CD release party for the Young@Heart Chorus, a group of folks in their 70s, 80s and 90s who cover rock songs like "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Dancing in the Dark" and a great medley of "Staying Alive" and "I Will Survive".

It could have been a cheap joke, but it was an incredible and inspiring show. If you ever get a chance to see them live, run don't walk!
