“MP3 Is Not a Crime”
Whadyaknow... The new Squeezebox Receiver is exactly the right size to be covered with one of the old stickers that you used to get with Squeezeboxes before the Logitech buyout, when Slim Devices gave a cut to the EFF.
The new Squeezebox hardware was one of the best things I saw at CES. The remote is pretty nice, but the best thing is that, like their SlimServer software, the firmware is open-source and Lua-based, so “the community” can write plugins and features for the remote. I predict this’ll be huge.
Audible Awesomeness
A Slim Devices Squeezebox atop a new portable speaker which, depending on how you read my employer's new blogging policy, I don't think I'm allowed to tell you is bloody great.
But let's just say that the combination of the two is comparable to the combinations of cheese and pickle, hops and barley, or The Beatles and recreational drugs.
Gawd Bless the Qwiin
My Wii, looking all patriotic after the application of a decal from DecalGirl.com.
HOWTO rip the audio from 5.1-mix music DVDs and play it back on a Squeezebox. I’ve got an increasing number of surround music releases, so this’ll come in handy.
Working from Home
Ah, the pleasures of working from home. (See notes on picture.) I could get quite used to this.
It’s Like a Podcast, Only Delivered Wirelessly.
Earlier this evening, I wanted to listen to my local NPR station to hear the results of today’s gubernatorial primary in Massachusetts.
So I grabbed my laptop, went to wbur.org, clicked through to the “Listen Live’ page, copied the link to their online stream to my clipboard, went to my Squeezebox control web page, selected “Radio Tune In”, pasted in the WBUR streaming URL, and hit Listen. Simple!
And as the LED display in the room lit up with “WBUR 90.9 FM, BOSTON”, it occurred to me belatedly that the RhymesWithNose sound system in my living room has an FM radio built-in.
This FM thing could really take off, you know.

SlimDevices have battled the uPnP demons, and Squeezeboxes will soon be able to stream Rhapsody content.
Weather on my Squeezebox
The somewhat terrific Weather screensaver running on the Squeezebox in our bedroom. Hurrah for internet-enabled consumer-electronic devices.
