Programmers Don't Like to Code
“Programmers don’t like coding, they like problem solving.” Yes! Coding is that dull chore between solving a problem and finding out if your solution works.

Manny Being Manipulated
Outstanding (and lengthy) article by Bill Simmons about the end of the Manny era in Boston. Sums up everything I felt about the whole affair — that it stank to high heaven, and I miss Manny as a player. I wish him all the best this postseason, and pray he doesn’t become a MFY next year.
A Look at the Clickjacking Web Attack and Why You Should Worry - Webmonkey
Good explanation of the newly publicised “clickjacking” browser exploit. Your clicks may not be going where you think they’re going.

CD Purchase: CSS - Cansei de Ser Sexy
I was vaguely aware of CSS's existence, but until seeing them live at the Treasure Island Music Festival, I hadn't listened to them much. They put on a great show, and have a cute female guitarist, so I downloaded their two albums and thoroughly enjoyed them. CDs subsequently purchased, and I now consider myself a fan.
Report: 60 Million People You'd Never Talk To Voting For Other Guy | The Onion
The US political “system” in a nutshell: “According to an eye-opening report released Tuesday, 60 million people whom you would never talk to, would never be in a position to talk to, and wouldn’t even be able to talk to if you tried will be voting for the other candidate in this year’s presidential election, and there is nothing you can do about it.”

Google 2001
In celebration of their tenth birthday, Google have resuscitated their search index from January 2001. Ah, the good old days, when “ROD BEGBIE IN VIRGIN SNOG SHOCKER!” turned up on the second page of results for my egosurf.
Nostalgia - Laughing Meme
Splendidly optimistic post from Kellan. “You remember those dark days after the first bust? You know the ones when all the MBAs left, and the people who loved the Web went on building it”

Improv Everywhere: MP3 Experiment San Francisco
Load a mysterious MP3 onto your iPod. Show up at Dolores Park at an appointed time. Simultaneously with hundreds of strangers, hit play. Follow the instructions. (See the report on 2007 for an example of the madness that my ensue!)

The final strike of the season
SF beat LA 3-1.
Joy & I had been a wee bit disappointed not to see Nomar Garciaparra or Manny Ramirez play, but understandably they're resting before the postseason. It wasn't until the 9th inning that we discovered that Nomar was actually making his managing debut at the game -- apparently a tradition of Joe Torré's.
AT&T Park
Ever since I first saw the Red Sox on TV playing at "SBC Park" (as then was), I've thought the Giants' park was gorgeous. This afternoon, Joy & I went to see their season closer against LA, and it was as lovely as I'd hoped.
Large, but intimate, and right next to the Pacific, I dream of the day the Red Sox ditch Fenway and build something as special as AT&T Park.
