'1984': As Good as It Gets
Fascinating article about the making of Apple’s iconic “1984” commercial.

The Pandora iPhone app apparently uses the text on album art to give you "useful" advertising.

Targeted
MySpace appear to have some impressive photo recognition mojo going on. I was creating a dummy account for work, and uploaded this shot of Clyde as my "profile photo". Note the advertising box that has appeared, without any metadata entry by myself!

Wario Land - Shake It! YouTube ad
Brilliantly-done ad for the new Wario game for Wii. Seems dull to start, but worth continuing with!

“If you see this message repeatedly, you may need to disable your ad blocking software”
You know what, Hulu? I don't think I will disable my ad-blocking software. It's almost like it's doing exactly what I want it to do.

A series of superb car dealership commercials. My next car had better have a Trunk Monkey.

Video with new YouTube advertising
YouTube have launched their advertising model, and it doesn’t look too bad at all. Fifteen seconds into a clip, a little transparent-ish message pops up at the bottom of the video, which you can click on for more information (pausing your video), or close if you like. Ten seconds later, it fades away again.

How Madison Avenue Is Wasting Millions on a Deserted Second Life
Excellently skeptical article on companies’ presence in Second Life. “You might wonder what Coke is doing in such a place. “It had a lot to do with hype,” admits Michael Donnelly.”

Popjustice: Sending shockwaves through the pop charts
Advertising agency creates their own girl group with the express purpose of pimping their clients’ products. Impressively cynical, even for an ad agency! (The BBC have said they won’t play the single any more)

Public safety hang-ups - The Boston Globe
The Scottsdale, AZ police department is running recruiting ads in the mens room at Fenway Park. I saw one last week, but really didn’t think it was an appropriate time to whip out my cellphone and take a photo.

Japan Runs on Dunkin' on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
This cracked me up when I saw it at Fenway last night. The Dunkin Donuts billboard above the bleachers is in Japanese (reportedly, it says “Welcome to Fenway Park”). Dice-K mania hits Dunks!

nike :: JUST DO IT.
As we await Daisuke Matsuzaka’s first start as a Red Sox pitcher, here’s his new Nike advert playing in Japan. The shot of Wally the Green Monster in the middle is kind of disconcerting.

Apple (UK and Ireland) - Get a Mac - Watch The New Ads
The Mac & PC on British TV are played by ace comedy double-act Mitchell & Webb. Genius!

Advertising/Design Goodness - Bose
It appears that the New Zealand advertising for Bose QuietComfort headphones is *considerably* different from the US and UK material.

Fritalian (Dunkin' Donuts commercial)
Another series of Dunkin Donuts commercials featuring music by They Might Be Giants has started hitting the air. This is my current favourite.

Ideas For Dozens: Why "I'm A PC" Works
That feeling you get from the “I’m a Mac” adverts that you like the PC more than the Mac? That’s what Apple want you to feel.

アップル - Macをはじめよう - TV CM
The Japanese versions of the “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” ads. They’re entertainingly precise copies of the originals.
